Artificial intelligence tools are rapidly changing how professionals search for and apply to jobs, but misuse or overreliance can undermine credibility and success. This session will provide practical guidance on how industrial hygiene and EHS professionals can ethically and effectively use AI to support their job search, from tailoring resumes and cover letters to preparing for interviews and evaluating job postings. Designed for students, early-career, and mid-career professionals navigating competitive job markets, the session will cover best practices, common pitfalls, and clear dos and don’ts to ensure AI is used as a career accelerator rather than a liability.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand appropriate and ethical uses of AI tools in the job application process, including where human judgment and personalization remain essential.
  • Identify best practices for using AI to strengthen resumes, cover letters, and professional profiles while maintaining authenticity and accuracy.

G10: Strategies for Scenario-Based Interview Questions

OEHS interviews often involve scenario-based questions to assess decision-making, communication skills, and analytical ability. This interactive discussion will share practical strategies for new, returning, and early career OEHS professionals to respond in a focused and impactful way. Presenters will review an incident-based scenario and a data-driven scenario; highlighting situations that require foresight and risk prioritization, as well as data interpretation and action planning.

Learning Outcomes 

  • Recognize the STAR approach as a framework for handling scenario-based interview questions.
  • Discuss strategies for responding to incident-based and data-driven scenarios.
  • Identify planning techniques that support clear, effective responses to scenario-based interview questions.
